I don't think they expect most rational people to do these things, they're just protecting themselves. What???!?!? I'm told it's because Big Bird has an imaginary friend, the kids talk to strangers, Oscar is such a rude grouch (uh..hello?) and Bert and Ernie are...well.. you know.
