"Problems cannot be solved at the same level of awareness that created them." – Albert Einstein

So,  based on the feedback I have so far, here’s what I am going to do:

It sounds, basically, that people still like reading the books.

It also sounds like we are not getting an intermixing of styles like we should.

And it warms my heart to see that most of us are in favor of Bill.  I love Bill.  If it lets more people get introduced to the joys of a good Bill Bryson book, then, well, it’s worth carrying on.

First, as representative (and, on occasion, Supreme Dictator – oh, was that my outside voice?) of the GAMBLE Steering Committee, I am going to extend this “month” to January in recognition of the holidays.  So, I will announce the Bryson book today, and the next book will come out on Feb. 1.

Second, I am going to retool the list.  Forget randomization.  I am going to look at the books and make a conscious decision to alternate heavy and light (man, sounds like the Diamond Tournament at GW).  I can’t remember who chose what at this point, so there’s not a lot of chance of putting too many of one person’s choices together.

Sound like a plan?

i’m looking forward to the chance at being able to finish one, Bill seems like the first shot for me. i’m such a picky reader, not neccesarily high brow picky, just picky. and we started off with a book that had no chance of my ever reading it. no offense to those who liked it, i’m just not equipped to deal with child murders in fiction, fiction is for entertainment and escape for me. look forward to seeing the new line up.
